Lela Imogene McCarty Garrett, 83, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at New Harmony Nursing Home, in New Harmony.

She resided in Evansville most of her life. 

She was born Nov. 7, 1920 to Wallace and Alma Nesler McCarty, in Posey County. 

She is survived by a daughter, Sandy Southard, of Arizona; a son, Jerry Garrett, of Michigan; sisters, Leatrice Hendricks and Roxanna Beard, of Texas and Nancy Crabtree, of Owensville; brothers, Robert E. McCarty, of Francisco, Larry McCarty and Sam McCarty, of Grayville, Ill., and Leroy McCarty, of Johnson; a special uncle, Bob Nesler, of Griffin; and a niece and caretaker, Patti Davis, of Princeton. 

Mrs. Garrett was predeceased by her parents; a son, A.P. Garrett, of Victoria, Texas; an infant son; a brother, Warren Dale McCarty; and a sister, Nadine Carner. 

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004 at Park Lawn Cemetery, in Evansville, with Pastor David Goldman officiating.

The family will meet at the cemetery. Colvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
