Gerald R. "Red" Dishon, 84, passed away on Saturday November 24, 2007.
He was born May 1, 1923 to George Howard and Sarah Beatrice (Nutter) Dishon at McCuneville, Ohio. The family moved to Shawnee, Indiana in 1928 and later to Oakland City, Indiana, in 1929, where Gerald graduated from high school.
Gerald served in the Pacific
Theater during WWII, returning to Oakland City in 1946. Shortly thereafter, he opened and operated Dishon’s Service Station on North Main Street until the family moved to Terre Haute in 1956.
On November 22,
1942, Gerald married
Geraldine Pirkle at Oakland City, Indiana. They had two children, Teresa Kaye Davis of Gladwin,
MI, and Gerald Robert (Marsha) Dishon II of DesMoines, IA.
In 1973, Gerald and Geraldine
settled in Gladwin, Michigan, where they were members of United Methodist Church, transferring their membership from Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Oakland City.
Gerald was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife; two brothers, George H. Dishon
and Warren W. Dishon; two sisters, Anabelle Harper and AlthaLou
Winkler; and a brother-in-law, Hallie Harper.
Surviving are his children,
Gerald & Teresa; grandchildren, Glen (Wanda) Snyder, Lynee
(Marty) Kapp, Eric (Linda) Snyder, SaraLyn (Scot) Stockwell,
Elizabeth (Adam) Zamora, John (Heather) Snyder, Karyn
(David) Smith, Kristin (Philip) Carstensen, Gerald Dishon III, and Estelyn Dishon; numerous great grandchildren; nieces and nephews;
brother-in-law, Ray Winkler; and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Dishon.
Funeral Services will be held
at 11:00
AM on Thursday
November 29, 2007 at the
Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, Indiana with the Dr. Douglas Low officiating. Burial will be
at the Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City.
Friends may visit from 4
until 8 PM on Wednesday and from 8 AM until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
