Dr. John G. Clanton, 66, passed away Wed. Nov. 29, 2006 at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville.

 

He was born in Cave In Rock, IL. to John R. & Gladys (Dutton) Clanton.

 

He was an Army veteran during the Vietnam War serving in Germany. He was a licensed barber in the state of Illinois

Dr. Clanton was an ordained General Baptist Minister for 46 years, serving many area churches including the Oakland City First General Baptist Church and most recently, the Mt. Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church. 

He was a graduate of Oakland City University in 1965. He received a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1969 and his Doctorate in 1989. 

He was head Chaplin at the Medium Security Prison at Branchville Correctional Facility. He was Executive Director of Compassionate Care in Oakland City. He also was a charter member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. 

Dr. Clanton is survived by his wife, Judith (Neeley) Clanton of Oakland City, son Jonathan Mark (Kristi) Clanton of Indianapolis and daughter, Julie Ann (Mark) Seebode, of Evansville. Grandchildren, Katelyn, Nathan, Jackson and Megan Clanton and Abigail Seebode survive.   Surviving brothers and sisters are; Clara Gordon of Centralia, IL, Helen Hobbs and Martha (Bill) Williams of Elizabethtown, IL., Bill (Gladys) Clanton of Panama City Beach, Fl. , Joe Clanton and David (Brenda) Clanton of Elizabethtown, IL., Frank (Zelda) Clanton of Tulsa OK., Dan (Sandy) Clanton of Troy, IL., sister-in-law, Joyce Clanton of Rosiclare, Il 

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lauren Clanton, his parents, a brother, Tom and a sister, Mary. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Oakland City First General Baptist Church with Dr. Rodney Walls and Dr, Debbie Salters officiating. Burial will be in Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City

Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the Corn- Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City and from noon until service time Sunday at the Church.
