Sherry Chavis, age 50, of Princeton, Indiana, a faithful witness and warrior closed her eyes to this world and opened them in the presence of an almighty God on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. She received her eternal promise and took flight to join the heavenly host somewhere around God’s throne. 

Sherry Hardiman-Chavis was born December 30, 1954 in Princeton, IN to the union of Charles & Phyllis (Dixon) Hardiman, who nurtured her in the ways of the Lord and instilled the value of kindness in her heart. She along with her sister, Debra Hardiman-Mellor were faithful comrades throughout her life.

Sherry graduated from the Princeton Community High School. Her hobbies include basketball, softball, and a 4-H leader. She was a lifelong member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she progressed through the music department. Additionally she served as usher, Vacation Bible School instructor, and Building Fund Treasurer. Sherry’s only employer was Hanson’s Manufacturing, demonstrating her loyalty and proficiency. She worked as an engineering clerk for 30 years. 

Sherry enjoyed many wonderful experiences in life, but her most fulfilling was on the day she gave birth to her only child, Joshua Charles Chavis. The words that proceeded from her mouth were that God has blessed her to become the mother of a healthy son. As a mother she never forgot the important things to share with Josh, those things being family, church, education, and hard work. She aided in instilling those values in her two special nieces, Bianca Ann Hardiman and Ashland Cuzzort. She adored being with her nephews and shared her love with those she met. 

Sherry left a void in the lives of those who knew her. She is memorialized today by a loving son, Mr. Joshua C. Chavis; parents, Charles and Phyllis Hardiman; two sisters, Debra (David) Mellor and Cynthia (Bob) Copeland; grandmother, Helen Hardiman; two nieces, Kimberly and Courtney Hardiman; three nephews, Robert Jr., Jerry and Michael Copeland; six great nieces; two great nephews; two aunts; two uncles; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends including the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Family. 

Funeral Services will be held on Monday October 3, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with the Pastor Ronald Collins and Rev. Floyd Edwards, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Princeton.

Friends may call from 4 until 8 PM on Sunday at the Funeral Home.
