Edward G. Burns, 88, passed
away Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville.
He was born January 12, 1920 in Princeton to George W. & Tillie C. (Kruse) Burns.
Edd was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division during
WW II and saw action in Africa, Sicily,
Italy, Ireland, England, France, Holland, Germany and Belgium. He was one of 100 WW II veterans awarded the French
Legion of Honor on June 5th, 2004 in Paris, France, commemorating the 60th
Anniversary of D-Day, the invasion of Normandy. His decorations and citations
include, E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal with Four Bronze Battle Stars, American
Theatre Medal, American Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal,
Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Glider Badge and Distinguished Unit
Badge.
Edd was a retired barber and had lived in Evansville for the past two years after moving from Francisco,
where he lived most all of his lifetime. He attended the Francisco United Methodist Church and was a member of Prince Masonic Lodge #231 in Princeton for over 50 years and also a member of V.F.W. #1147 in Princeton.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lois (Hill) Burns; a son, Edward “Stick” and wife
Heather Burns of Oakland City; a granddaughter, Jocelyn and husband Casey Caringer of Francisco; a grandson, Jordan M. Burns of
Oakland City; also four sisters, Betty Lynch of Patoka, Ruth Gaston of
Princeton, Marjorie Sloan of Phoenix, AZ and Wilma Ikerd
of Indianapolis; also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Fred, Charles, Harold,
Kenneth, Glenn, Gene, and John; a sister, Marie Bilderback.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M.

October 29, 2008 at Colvin
Funeral Home in Princeton, with Rev. Bob McDonald officiating.
Friends may visit from 4
until 8
P.M. Tuesday at Colvin
Funeral Home. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Francisco. V.F.W. #1147 will provide full military
rites at the cemetery.
