John E. Terry, age 87 years, of rural Wonewoc,Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

 

He was born on June 19, 1921 to Orville and Ruth (Dinderman) Terry in Freeport, Illinois. John grew to adulthood in Southern Illinois and Southern Indiana.

 

In his youth he worked at the Orville Redenbacher Popcorn Farms. John served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the Cazenovia American Legion.

 

John was united in marriage to Drucie June Pugh on March 21, 1942 in Princeton, Indiana. They lived in Indiana several years, he worked for International Harvester in Evansville and Chrysler in Kokomo and they moved to the Hillsboro area in 1967 where they began farming. They enjoyed many things together including square dancing, fishing and making quilts. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2006.

 

Survivors include four daughters, Carol Allikas (friend - Geno Rosko) of Hillsboro, Phyllis (Stanley) Saari of Cazenovia, Linda (Steven) Scheeler of Madison, and Cheryl (Doug) Husom of Boscobel; nine grandchildren, two of which were raised by Drucie and John, Shannah Terry (friend – Ben Williams) of Reedsburg and Angela (David) Hinze of Hillsboro, additional grandchildren, Connie Cassada of Hillsboro, June Denman of Frankfort, Indiana, Valerie (George) Anachini of Lebanon, Indiana, John Seibert of Cazenovia, Stanley Saari II of Cazenovia, George Ann (Daniel) Lewis of Frankfort, Indiana and Danna Beck of Grapeview, Washington; 24 Great-grandchildren; 5 Great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frank (Betty) Terry of Symra, Tennessee.

 

In addition to his wife, Drucie June, he was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Margaret Thomas and Marion Deal; and brothers, Richard, Virgil, Robert, Raymond, and James Terry.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City, Indiana, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Providence Cemetery near Francisco, Indiana. Rev. Jim Terry will officiate.
