J. Stone
Owensville
- Harry J. Stone, 76, formerly of Owensville died August 31, 2000, in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil.
He
was born in Owensville and graduated from Owensville High
School in 1942 and attended Northwestern University and Georgetown University, where
he received his diplomatic training.
He
retired as senior vice president and director of the Motion Picture association
of America in Rio
de Janeiro in 1997. He brought movie stars to South
America, had private screenings and he defended the
interests of the American film industry.
He served in the 10th Mountain Troops in Italy during
World War II where he learned Portuguese and fought alongside soldiers from Brazil.
He
is survived by his wife, Lucia (Burlamqui) Stone of
Rio de Janeiro, where they have lived since 1958; one brother, Dr. J. Stone of Indianapolis; and
several nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Olevia
(McCarty) Stone and a brother Robert.
Services
and burial were conducted in Rio
de Janeiro.
