Monroe Hunt, 87, of Oakland City, IN, passed away Thursday March 10, 2005 at 1:15A.M. at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton, IN

He was born on Sept. 20, 1917 in Gibson County IN to Marion and Christenia (Phillips) Hunt.

He retired after 25 years service as a mail carrier for the Oakland City Post Office.

He was a member Oakland City American Legion Post # 256, former member of Oakland City Kiwanis, managed the Gibson Co. License Branch for 5 years, member of Republican Party in Gibson County, served on the East Gibson School Board from 1979-1982, Oakland City Town Board and City Park Board, was a 4-H leader, served on Gibson County Fair board for 52 years as director and Secretary, President in 1976 and was a Director Emeritus. He also was active in the Covered Bridge restoration.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Virgil Hunt; three sisters Mildred Bauer, Esther Wykoff, and Frances Hartranft; and his wife Helen Hunt in Feb. 26, 1998.

Survivors include:  Children, Keith Hunt of Oakland City, IN, Debbie Haseman of Jasonville, IN, Phil Hunt of Chesterfield, MO and Roger Hunt of Brookville, Ohio; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Sunday March 13, 2005 2:00 P.M. Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel, with burial in Union Cemetery near Union, IN.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Saturday and from 8:00 A.M. until services on Sunday at the chapel.

American Legion Post # 256 will conduct military graveside services.
