Florence Jean Hill, 77, of Oakland City, IN entered rest on Friday December 30, 2005 at her home surrounded by her family.
Florence was born and raised on a farm in the Fairview community of Gibson County, where her grandfather helped establish the Fairview
Presbyterian Church. As a young girl she taught Sunday School
there for number of years. She and her
family are descendants of the pioneers who came to Gibson County about 1820.
For the past 45 years she was a member of Oak Grove General Baptist Church in Oakland City, IN, where she sang in the choir and served on the budget
committee, on the pulpit committee and as church treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her parents
Roger and Florence (Hunter) Townsend; two sisters, Hazel Markee and Mary Elizabeth Cross.
Her family was the love of her life.
She is survived by Darrell F. Hill, her
husband of 49 years and 30 year business partner in Johnson’s Restaurant in Oakland City, IN. Florence is
also survived by four children: Greg Hill of Indianapolis, IN, Christi Minnis of Evansville, IN, Roxanne Mills (Randy) of Oakland
City, IN, and Julianne Moyes (Mark) of Evansville,
IN; ten grandchildren, Rachael (Rusty) Moorman, Ryan Minnis,
Alicia (Ben) Ford, Erin (Jarod) Morrison, Allison Oxendine, Megan Hill, Audra Hill, Ryan Mills, Andy Mills
and Miranda Moyes; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy
and George Hadley of Princeton, IN, brother and sister-in-law, Roger Dean and Vivian
Townsend of Princeton, IN, brother-in-law, Harold Cross of Princeton, IN.
Funeral services will be Monday January 2, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel, Rev. Tony
Phillips officiating with burial in Fairview Cemetery near Francisco, IN.
Visitation will be Sunday January 1,
2006 from 2:00-6:00 P.M. and from 8:00 A.M. until services on Monday at the Chapel.
