Dorris E. Cromer 85 of Mackey IN passed away on Friday Dec. 24,
2004 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, IN.
He was born on November 3, 1919 in Buckskin, IN to Michael Fredrich
and Laura Belle “Kissel” Cromer,
he was sixth of ten children.
He attended Buckskin Grade
School and
was a 1937 graduate of Mackey High School. He served in North Africa and Italy during W.W. II. serving in
the Army. He was a member of Somerville
American Legion Post # 462 , Barton Township Lions Club since 1972, St. John’s
United Church of Christ in Buckskin, IN, and the Arkla
Retirees Club. Dorris was a welder for 25 years at Servel and 25 years at Arkla
Air-Conditioning in Evansville, IN. He also was a
farmer most of his life in Mackey-Buckskin, community and loved raising cattle
and the outdoor life. Dorris was well known around Barton Township Community for
selling oranges for Lions Club and pecans for his Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Willie and Kenneth Cromer, three sisters Edna Rosemeyer, Ruby Cairns and Laverne Schmett.
Surviving is his wife of 58 ½ years the former
Mary E. (Deputy) Cromer (they where married on May 29, 1946); one son-and daughter-in law David and Mary C.
Cromer, of Mackey, IN; two daughters and son-in-laws Marsha and Kenneth Reising, of Mackey IN and Pam and Patrick McBride of
Evansville, IN. One brother Charles
Cromer of Buckskin, IN, three sisters Lillian Butler of Poseyville,
IN , Elsie Cromer of Ft. Branch, IN and Mildred Loewenkamp,
of Princeton, IN.
Nine grandchildren, Greg and Laura Reising, Joe and Amy Reising,
Patrick Reising, Sarah Reising,
all of Mackey, IN Scott and Leslie McBride, of Noblesville, IN. Jill and Cas Swiz of Evansville, IN, Cathy
and Jody Starkey of Plainfield, IL, Jenni and Bernie
Harrison of Mackey, IN, and Shelby Knight of Princeton, IN.
Eight great grandchildren, Amy Griffey, Julie Reising, Matthew Reising , Hannah Reising ,
Jonathan Reising, Shelby Harrison, Kenny Harrison,
Samantha Starkey. And
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday December
28, 2004 10:30 A.M. St. John’s United Church of Christ in Buckskin, IN, Rev.
Larry Miller officiating, burial in St. John’s Cemetery in Buckskin, IN.
Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00 P.M. Monday at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City, IN and 8:30 A.M. until services on Tuesday at the Church.
