William L. Holmes Sr.

Rev. William Lynden Holmes, Sr., 82, of Oakland City, died at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 1995, at Wirth Osteopathic Hospital.

He was born Sept. 30, 1912. Rev. Holmes was a General Baptist minister for 47 years, pastoring a number of churches in the area.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland City College, and served as a rehabilitation counselor for the state of Indiana.  He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene of Oakland City.

Preceding in death were his parents, John and Martha (Woods) Holmes; his wife, Louise, who died in 1993; and a son, Bill Holmes, in 1994.

          Surviving are a son David Lee Holmes of Arthur; four daughters,  Ann Griffin, Becki Benson, and Julie Brewster, all of Oakland City, and Linda Guimond of Lancaster, Pa,; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and  a sister, Mary Telfer of Martinsville, Ind.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Church of Nazarene, Oakland City, with burial in Montgomery Cemetery.

Friends may call at Lamb Basham Memorial Chapel, after 2 p.m. Tuesday; and at the church from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Nazarene building fund.
