A 14-year-old Gibson County, Ind., boy died Thursday, June 11, 1987, from injuries he suffered when his motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck near Haubstadt, police said.

Eric Pemberton, 14, of Route 1 Haubstadt, died at 4:37 p.m. Of multiple trauma at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Vanderburgh County Deputy Coroner Jim Nelson said.

The boy was struck by the pickup truck about 3:30 p.m. At the intersection of two rural county roads, about 1/2 mile west of Haubstadt, said Capt. Rick Bar of the Gibson County Sheriff's Department.

The youngster apparently ran a yield sign and drove his motorcycle into the path of the pickup truck, police said. The truck carried the Pemberton boy about 150 feet before his body landed in a yard, Barr said.

The driver of the pickup, Robert Elpers, 35, of Haubstadt, was not injured. Police said the Pemberton boy was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred.
