 FLORENCE COWAN

  Florence Cowan, 95, of Marion was claimed by death at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27.  She was an educator at Owensville in the early 1900's.

  Born on February 27, 1879, the deceased was the daughter of the late Isaac and Laura Polk Spore.  She was a 1896 graduate of Princeton High School and graduated from Indiana University in 1904.  The same year she began teaching at a one room school in Owensville.  For several years she was the principal of the combined grade and High School in Owensville.

  The deceased was married to Robert E. Cowan who preceded her in death in 1940.  He was principal at Marion.  She was an active member of the Methodist Church and was teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class until she was 85.  She was a charter member of the Monday Conversation Club.

  Surviving are three sons, Raymond of Franklin, Charles of Silver Spring, Md., and Ralph of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Della) Ernest of Elyria, O., 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Diggs Funeral Home in Marion in charge of Rev. Phill Stephens.  Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Marion.
