"Aged Resident of Patoka
Dies at Hospital Here -
Mrs. Mary Ellen Cunningham,
age 93 widow of the late William G. Cunningham, and a life-long resident of
Patoka and community, died at the Methodist hospital at 6:30 o'clock this morning (7
Mar 1941.) She
had been a patient in the hospital for a month suffering with a fractured hip,
received in a fall at her home in Patoka.
Mrs. Cunningham was born
north of Patoka, Nov 29, 1847, and had resided all her life in the Patoka community. She was a
member of the Patoka Methodist church and the Patoka Eastern Star chapter.
Funeral services will be held
Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Patoka Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. R.
J. Skelton. Burial will be in the Patoka Cemetery. Members of the Eastern Star will give the
ritualistic services at the cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Joseph Davidson, Hazelton; two sons, John, at home, and Elmer of Poseyville; one brother, William Hitch, of Hazelton.
Preceding Mrs. Cunningham in
death were a sister, Mrs. Nellie Gorman of Arcadia, Calif, who died a few months ago; a daughter, Celeste
Cunningham, who died in 1937, and two sons, Robert and Gilbert. Other survivors
are six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The remains will be removed
to the home in Patoka Saturday morning where friends may call."
