Virginia L. Young, 89, of Winslow, passed
away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010
at home.
Born May 5, 1921 in Ayshire, she was the
daughter of Sampson and Mary Jane (Nolan) Corn.
She took great pride in having been a
riveter making P47 airplanes at Republic Aircraft in Evansville that helped win WW II. She was an accomplished
seamstress and for several years did tailoring in association with Kleen Rite Kleaners in Oakland City.
She also worked for several years at Red &White Food Market in Oakland City.She loved beauty and loved to raise flowers and to
paint. She did painting of several landmarks within the area. She loved to
travel and paint sites she saw while traveling. She and husband, Prentice, with
their friends, Bill and Norma Jean Collingsworth, took many traveling vacations
all over the United States.
For much of her live she was a loyal, active
member of Patoka Grove United Methodist Church serving as a teacher and in various positions.
Survivors include a daughter and
son-in-law, Judy (Alfred) Foust of Campbelltown; son,
Gary Young of Coe; sister, Ruth Miller of Wabash; grandchildren,
Joel (Kim) Foust of Bloomington, Jonathan (Darby) Foust of Shelby, N.C., Kary Young of Coe, Mari Ann Young wife of Charles Swartz of
Petersburg; and great-grandchildren, Bailey, Samuel, Gabriel and Logan Foust
and Demetre Young.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Prentice Young who she was married to for 60 years before his
death in 1998; and two brothers, Wallace and
Darrell Corn.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. (central) on Saturday Dec. 4, 2010, at Patoka Grove United Methodist Church near Oakland City
with the Rev. Boyd Heldring officiating. Burial will
be in Williams Cemetery.
Visitation will 4-8 p.m. (central) Friday at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City
and from 8
a.m. until the service hour
on Saturday at the church.
