William J. “Pop” Thorne, 88, passed away Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at his home in Chandler.

Born Feb. 13, 1922 in Murray, Ky., he was the son of Jimmy and Callie (Todd) Thorne. 

He previously resided in Haubstadt for 38 years. He retired from James Trucking in Francisco.

 “Pop” was of the Protestant faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.

 “Pop” is survived by four daughters, Mary Williams, Faye (Robert) Luty, Charlotte Bowling all of Chandler, Carol (Everett) Johnson of Henderson, Ky.; five sons, William H. Thorne of Boonville, Rick (Janet) Thorne of Elberfeld, Robert (Patty) Thorne of Francisco, Earl (Terry) Thorne and Jimmy Thorne all of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Moline Bennett of Hazel, Ky.; one former son-in-law, Ed Keil of Haubstadt;  37 grandchildren;  numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pernie Mae in 2000; three grandchildren, Robert Thorne, Jr. Carrie and Jessica Ridley; and a former son-in-law, George Ridley, Sr.

 Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 at Wade Funeral Home, 119 S. Vine St., in  Haubstadt with the Rev. Lucille Bucy, a sister-in-law of Mr. Thorne, officiating. The Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.

Visitation was 3-8 p.m. on Monday at Wade Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Evansville.
