Mary Christine Watkins, 85, passed away Thursday, August
26, 2010 at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton.
She was born Oct. 29, 1924 in Woodburn, Ky. and had resided in the Wheeling community since 1945.
She was a nurse’s aide at Gibson General Hospital for many years and was Washington Township Trustee
for 16 years. She was a former emergency medical technician who was in the
first group of EMT’s in Gibson County. Mary Christine was a member of Wheeling United Methodist Church
and their Missionary Society, Order of Eastern Star in Hazleton/Patoka, White
Shrine through Hadi Shrine Temple, Rainbow Girls
Assembly in Hazleton and very active in the Red Cross where she had been an
instructor.
Survivors include her five children,
Joy (Bill) Gendren, David (Dorie)
Watkins and Janice (Pat) Wildt all of Wheeling, Linda
Sue (David) Klingerman of Hamilton, Ohio, Donald Ray
(Cathy) Watkins of Elizabethton, Tenn.; a brother, Bishop Merritt of Franklin,
Ky.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; six great great-
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Bill Watkins in 1986; parents, James Robert and Gladys (Harrington) Burgett; three brothers, James, Ray and Peely;
four sisters, Violine, Sara, Shirley and Fay; and a
granddaughter, Scarlet Wildt.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2010 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with the Rev. Brian Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Atkinson Chapel Cemetery near Oatsville.
Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Colvin Funeral Home.
