Glenn Burdette, 89, of Oakland City
passed away Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010 at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton.
Glenn was born on Sept.15, 1920 in Pike County to Euphrates and Mahala Jane (Flenner) Burdette.
He lived in Oakland City
since 1975, coming from Coe. He retired from the Old Ben Coal Co. and
also worked at Blackfoot Coal and Land Corp. He was a member of the UMWA
Local 5179. He served in the U.S. Marines Corps during WWII. He was
a Past Commander of the American Legion 256 in Oakland City
and served on the military funeral detail for many years. He was also a
member of the VFW Post 1147 in Princeton and the Eagles in Oakland City.
He loved to garden.
He is survived by his wife Kathy (Wade)
Burdette of Oakland City; 1 brother, Harold “Tom” Burdette of Littleton, CO;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
sisters, Doris Rogers, Thelma Burdette; and brothers, Wayman,
Forest, Elmo and Dean Burdette.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. (central) Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City,
with the Rev. Jack Hamm officiating. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery in Coe. American Legion Post #256 will conduct military graveside
services.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday and from noon until the service hour on Sunday at the funeral home.
