Esther M. Humpert, 92, formerly of Haubstadt, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Chase Care Center in El Cajon, Calif.

Born Nov. 14, 1917 in Evansville, she was the daughter of Bernard and Magdalena (Folz) Rietman.

She resided in El Cajon since 1998. She was a homemaker.

 She was a former member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt where she was the Sacristan for several years.  She was also a former member of The Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella 151 and St. Bernadette Auxiliary 280.  Esther was a recipient of The Brute’ Award and was a den mother for the Boy Scouts. 

Esther is survived by two sons, Ronald (Debbie) Humpert of Arcadia, Calif., Dale Humpert of El Cajon, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Sherryl Humpert of El Cajon; one sister, Margie Toon of Evansville; two brothers, Joe Rietman of Evansville, Walter Rietman of Haubstadt; five grandchildren, Marci Lecture, Kari Parker, Ryan Humpert, Chris Humpert, Melissa Summy;  three great-grandchildren, Logan Parker, Emma Parker, Matthew Humpert; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis in 1980; a son, Gerald in 2008; two sisters, Sister Augusta Rietman, O.S.B., Leola Weinzapfel; and a  brother, Bernard Rietman, Jr.

 A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2010 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Tony Ernst as the celebrant.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until Mass time Friday at the church. Wade Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
