S. Irene Thompson, 94, passed away Friday, June 25, 2010 at Green Hill Manor in Fowler.

She was born June 8, 1916 in Gibson County.

She retired in 1976 after 30 years of service with Potter & Brumfield in Princeton, where she was an assembly line group leader.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Princeton and the Daughters of Isabella.  She was a 4-H leader for many years and was also the President of her home-ec club for several years.

 Survivors include two daughters, Peggy (Jerry) Young of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.,  Nancy (Larry) Benedict of Fowler; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Valentine and Minnie (Graper) Gaebel; a grandson, Brad Benedict in 1971; husband, J. Hubert Thompson in 1994; son, David Thompson in 2002; two brothers, Melvin and Wes Gaebel; and three sisters, Rose Taylor, Lill Speer and Valada Stuart-Kell.

 A Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Princeton, with Father Ronald Zgunda the celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from noon until mass time on Tuesday at the church.  Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton is handling the arrangements.
