Robert P. Hennig,
90, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Gibson General Hospital.
He was born July 26, 1919, in Chicago, Ill.
A graduate of John Marshall Law School in 1944, also in Chicago, he established the insurance business of Hennig & Hennig in Chicago, then entered the oil exploration and distribution
business in 1949. The oil business eventually drew Robert and his family
to Princeton, in the mid-50s, where he became an active member of
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was also an active
member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1131, eventually reaching Fourth
Degree membership level. He then established the Ditch Witch Distribution
business in the Midwest in the 1960s and 1970s.
Robert is survived by his two sons, William
R. and his wife Phyllis K., of St. Louis, Mo., David A. and his wife Kathy D.,
of Evansville; grandchildren, William R. “BJ” Hennig
II and his wife, Theresa L., of San Antonio, Texas, Brian C. Hennig and his wife, Amy K., of Elk Grove Village, Ill.,
Bradley G. Hennig and his wife Torri
L., of Lake Mills, Wis; great-grand children, Dylan
R., Samantha L., Sarah E., Bryce A., and Ava E.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife,
Mildred Opal, in 2001.
A Memorial High Mass will be will be at 10
a.m. Monday, March 5, 2010 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church presided by the Most
Rev. Gerald A. Gettelfinger, Father Ronald Zgunda and Father Bernie Etienne. Robert will be laid to
rest at the St.
Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery immediately following.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2010 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will also be 8-9:30 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010
at the funeral home.
