Dixie J. “Grandma Dixie” Hughes age 87
passed away Friday January 15, 2010 at the home of her son in Martinsville, IN. She was born in Princeton IN. Sept. 7, 1922 to Chester and Ella (Phillips) Beazley. She had lived in Union
area for the past 40 years moving there from Patoka.
Dixie returned to Patoka High School later in life and graduated from there in 1958. She worked and retired
from the payroll dept. at Potter and Brumfield. She was a member of the Union Community Church in Union, member of the Gibson General Hospital Auxiliary, a
50-year member of the Patoka Order of Eastern Star, a member of the American
Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a volunteer at the Petersburg Health Care
Center.
She is survived by three sons: Steve (Betty) Hughes, Union, Pete (Beth) Hughes,
Patoka and Dan (Lisa) Hughes, Martinsville, three grandchildren: Melissa
(Brian) Fox, Chandler, Emily (Trent) Phillips, Princeton, Christie (Troy)
Phelps, Martinsville, five great grandchildren: Gavin, Aiden,
Leland, Jacob and Hayley
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Judith Brown.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday January 19, 2009 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. Burial
will be in the Union Community Church Cemetery in Union. Visitation will be Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home with an Eastern Star service at 8 p.m.
