SOMERVILLE - Steven E. "GunPowder" Miller, 62, of Somerville, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville.

Born July 23, 1947 in Evansville, he was the son of Ernest and Beatrice (Wade) Miller.

He worked at Old Ben Coal 1, Keensburg Mine, Murdock Mine and retired after 30 years. He was a member of U.M.W.A. and Local 5179, served as fire chief for 17 years with the Somerville Fire Dept., was a former member of the Barton Township Advisory board and was a member of the Labor Day Association.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Nancy (Williams) Miller; sons, Thomas William Miller of Seattle, Wash., Kent Steven (Arielle) Miller of Somerville,Winston Seth Miller of Rock Island, Ill.; grandchildren, Sage and Carter Jet Miller; and brother,William "Bill" Miller of Oakland City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Nancy Wade.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City with the Rev. Matt Malin and the Rev. Bill L. Reed officiating. Burial will be in Somerville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m.Thursday and from 8 a.m. until the service hour on Friday at the chapel.
