Eugene Schoonover age 90
passed away Sunday September 20,
2009 at Harbour Manor Nursing Home in Noblesville,
Indiana. Prior to his residency at Harbour Manor, he had been a resident of Evansville,
Indiana for most of his life and had
attended the Mackey, Indiana Church
of the Nazarene.
He was born February 24, 1919,
in Somerville, Indiana,
the son of Eva (May) and Clarence Schoonover, both deceased. On December 27, 1941 he married
Evelyn Smiley who passed away in 1999. He was also preceded in death by his
brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Eula Mae
Schoonover.
Eugene graduated from high school
in Mackey, Indiana
and graduated Magnum Cum Laude from the University
of Evansville. He received his MS
degree from Indiana University.
Mr. Schoonover taught math and science at F.
J. Reitz High
School for over thirty years, retiring in 1981.
He served as a 1st Lt. in the US Army during World War II, serving as a
supply officer in Brooklyn, New
York.
Survivors include his two daughters, Jerry Ann Roland and Janet Lee Howell,
both of Noblesville, Indiana,
six grandsons, three great granddaughters, one great grandson, sister and
brother-in-law, Joyce and Alex Moore, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Friday September 25, 2009 at the
Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland
City with Rev. Bill Reed
officiating. Burial will follow in the Albright
Cemetery in Mackey. Visitation
will be from 4 until 8 p.m.
Thursday at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland
City. Military Graveside Services
will be conducted.
