HAUBSTADT — Edwin B. “Bernie” Emmert, 78, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville.

Born May 24, 1931 in Haubstadt, he was the son of Peter and Elnora (Schaefer) Emmert.

He resided in Haubstadt his entire life.

Bernie retired from South Gibson School Corp. after 25 years and also enjoyed many years bartending at Haub Steak House. Previous employers include Whirlpool and Lewis-Allis.

 

He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Honorary member of Knights of Columbus 2215, American Legion Post 194, Haubstadt Historical Society, Haubstadt Alumni Association and he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty; his children, Grady (Janet), Greta (Robert) Phillips, Pete (Mona), Dwight, Ron (Shannon), Jay (Amanda); four sisters, Mary Rose Hunter, Sister Mercedes Emmert, Sister Emily Emmert, Ruth Reitman; two brothers, Roger and Robert Emmert; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John and Paul Emmert.

A Mass of Celebration will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Father Tony Ernst officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Wade Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call from 10:30 a.m. until Mass time Friday at the church.
