DARLINGTON--Clayton Work, 95, retired farmer, died at 11 p.m. Friday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Don Clark, near here. He had been in failing health for several years. Mr. Work was born at Waynetown Nov. 25, 1870, the son of Robert and Angeline Fletcher Work. He married Kate Glover on April 30, 1893. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1947. He had lived at Darlington for four years. Prior to that he lived at Hillsboro 43 years. Mr. Work was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and was a 65-year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Waynetown. Widely known as a musician he had been a member of the C & EI Shop Band, the Danville, Ill., Municipal Band and the old Company C Band of the National Guard. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Don Clark of Rt. 1, Darlington; a son, Albert F. of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, Calie Work of Waynetown; three grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro. Rev. Guy Tremaine will officiate. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. Clayton Work, age 95, of Darlington Rt. 1, a retired farmer of the Hillsboro ·Community, died at 11 p.m, Friday, May 20, at his home. He had been in failing health several years.
Mr. Work was born Nov. 25, 1870, in Waynetown, the son of Robert and Angeline Fletcher Work. He was married April 30, 1893, at Veedersburg to Kate Glover, who preceded him in death Aug. 23, 1947. He had resided on Darlington Rt. 1 for four years and in the Hillsboro community 43 years. He was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and a 65-year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Waynetown.
He was a former member of the C&EI Shops Band, the Danville Municipal Band and Fort Knox Company C band.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Don Clark of Darlington Rt. I; one son, Albert F. of Bradenton, Fla; one brother, Calvin of Waynetown; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Crumley- Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The Rev. Guy E. Tremaine officiated and burial was in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown.
