Hillsboro, Nov 29 - Many hearts were saddened here Thursday when a message was received announcing the death of Lawrence Wood of Ashton, Idaho, a former Hillsboro boy. The message was sent by his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hargis, to her brother, L.l. Wood of this place and stated that he died Wednesday night. This is the second death message Mr. Wood has received during the week, having received word Sunday of the death of his sister, Mrs. Alta Wood Sealey, of Ashton, Idaho. It had been learned by letter that Lawrence Wood was ill of influenza and it is supposed that pneumonia developed. He and his wife had been residing on a farm near Ashton, Idaho and on the account of Mr. Wood's poor health, he having not recover ed from a surgical operation he underwent during the summer, they had made a farm sale and moved to the city to reside. The school building having been converted into a hospital on account of the numerous cases of the epidemic, Mr. Woods was taken there for treatment on the day they moved to the city. Mrs. Wood was also stricken with the disease at the home of a friend. Lawrence Wood, son of the late James and Orpha Wood, w as born here 31 years ago and remained in this vicinity until 10 years a go when he went to Idaho. In July 1911 he was united in marriage to Miss Beulah Miller of this place, who survives. He assisted his brother, L. L. Wood in a barber shop here for several years and after going west conducted a barber shop of his own for a few years and later took a claim where he has since resided. He leaves 4 brothers, Oliver and Benjamin of Ashton, Idaho, L.L. of this place and Freeman Wood of the American Expeditionary Forces in France and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hargis also of Ashton. -- typed by kbz
