WOOD, Carrie Leighty - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Newtown - Mrs. Carrie Wood, 70-year-old former resident of this community, died Thursday night in a Marion, Ill. hospital. She recently underwent surgery. Born Sept. 22, 1891, in Mellott, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Leighty. She married Lorenzo Wood in 1940. Mr. and Mrs. Wood moved to Lafayette about 12 years ago. Mr. Wood died last July 9 and since that time Mrs. Wood had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Marshall Bedford, at Marion. Mrs. Wood was a member of the Newtown OES and was a past worthy matron of the organization. Survivors include the daughter with whom she made her home; a brother, Carl Leighty, who lives in the Masonic Home at Franklin; and a granddaughter. The body will be taken to the Sollar and Baker Funeral Home at Lafayette Sunday. Interment will be in the Newtown Cemetery Monday. Other funeral arrangements are incomplete
