Funeral services for Archie Lester Wood, age 55, well-known resident of Wabash Township, who died suddenly and unexpectedly at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, while en-route to Covington, were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the West Liberty Church of Christ. The Rev. Leslie Parker officiated and burial, with the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in
charge, was in the West Liberty Church Cemetery.
Mr. Wood, ,accompanied by his wife, was en-route to Covington when he suffered a fatal heart attack. He was driving over the new overhead bridge on the Stringtown Road when he slumped over. Mrs. Wood was able to stop their car without mishap.
He was born Aug. 16, 1905 in Greenup, Ill., the son of Uriah and Mattie Stockbine, He was married Nov. 17, 1923 to Slyvia Nees, who survives.. He had resided in the Greenup area until 1937 when he moved to Rankin, Ill. The family moved to Wabash Township, Covington Rt. 1, in 1944. He had been a farmer most of his life but had also been employed at the C&EI Shops in Danville for several years. For the past several years he had been employed as a carpenter in construction work.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: seven children, Bill of Indianapoiis, Mrs. Helen Horton of Brookston, Mrs. Dorothy Shookman of Decatur, Ill., Miss. Nina Wood of Chicago, Mrs. Mary Lou Landrath of Williamsport and Keith and Archie, Jr., at home; 12 grand children; one brother, Harry Wood of Toledo, Ill., and six sisters, Mrs. Nell Smith of North Terre Haute, Mrs. Zelma Roan of Greenup, Ill., Mrs. Verla Thomas of Milwaukee, Wis., Miss Lu Wood and Mrs. Eleanor McCormick, both of Lombard, Ill., and Mrs. Marie Grissom of Allerton, Ill.
