CATLIN – Caleb P. Witsman, 79, of Catlin, died at 9 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 4, 1969) at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville where he had been a patient since January. Born Jan. 20, 1890, at Silverwood, Ind., he was the son of Noah and Mary Hibbs Witsman. A Cates, Ind., resident most of his life, he had made his home in Catlin with his sister, Mrs. Lola Keller, for the past 18 years. Mr. Witsman was a retired employe of the Nickel Plate Railroad. He had served in the infantry in France during World War I. He was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ and its Christian Men Builder Class, and had belonged to the Modern Woodmen of America at Cates. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Maud Crowder of Veedersburg Route 2. He was preceded in death by a brother. Services will be at 3 p.m. (EDT) at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington, Ind., with the Rev. Dennis Fulton officiating. CATES - Caleb P. Witsman, age 79, a resident of Cates most of his life, died at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Veterans
Administration Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient since January.
Mr. Witsman was born Jan. 20, 1890 in Silverwood, the son of Noah and Mary Hibbs Witsman.  He had never married and for the past 18 years he had made his home with a sister, Mrs. Lola Keller tn Catlin, Ill.  He had served with the U.S. Infantry in France during World WW I.  He was a member of the Catlin Church and of its Christian Men's Builder's Class and the Modern  Woodmen of America Lodge of Cates.
Surviving are: two sisters, Mrs. Maude Crowder of Veedersburg Rt. 2, and Mrs. Keller of Catlin, and several nieces and
nephews.  He was preceded In death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington.  The Rev. Dennis Fulton officiated and burial was in the Kingman Fraternal Cemetery.
