CATES—Albert Thomas Witsman, 72, life resident of Cates, died at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient for six days. He was born July 17, 1894 in Fulton Township, Fountain County, a son of Henry C. and Sarah Abernathy Witsman. Mr. Witsman was never married. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Catherine Purple of Covington, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, a brother and three half-sisters. Mr. Witsman was a World War I Army veteran. He was missing in action for a time while fighting in Germany. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. E. V. Wamsley officiating. Burial will be in Coal Creek Cemetery. Albert T. Witsman, age 92, a life-long resident of the Cates community, died Monday, Sept. 26, in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient six days.
Mr. Witsman was born July 17, 1874, in Fulton Township, Fountain County, the son of Henry C. and Sarah Abernathy Witsman. He had lived all of his life in the Cates community and had never married. He served in the Army during World War I and once was reported missing in action during his tour in Germany.
He is survived by: one sister, Mrs. Cathryn Purple of Covington, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, four sisters and three half-sisters.
The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home m Covington where friends may call Wednesday night. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. E.V. Wamsley will officiate and burial will be in Coal Creek Cemetery.
