VEEDERSBURG -- Funeral services for Herman C. A. Winkler were held Tuesday at the Fishero Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Wunrow of Danville officiating. Mrs. Gretchen Minnick was organist and James Holms sang. Serving as pallbearers and assisting with the flowers and also conducting Masonic rites at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery were James Strean, Marion Overpeck, Joe Holt, Frances Dismore, Earl Potter, Wayne Ludlow, Arthur Parham, Jack Mornont, Delbert Ratcliff, Woollen Hollcroft, Garland Fisher, Alex Brimberry and Gale Hershberger.   -- typed by Walt W

Note: According to papemortuary.com, Herman was born in New York City 3-26-1879 wife was Ella Kaul whom he married 12-28-1905 and he died 3-18-1960 buried Waynetown.

Herman Winkler, a long time resident of Veedersburg passed away quietly about 3:30 Friday afternoon March 18, 1960 at his home here after returning from town.  Although he had suffered a stroke in 1950, he had recovered sufficiently to continue with his various activities and apparently enjoyed good health until his death at the age of 80 years 11 months and 18 days.  Mr. Winkler son of John and Ulricke Stevens Winkler was born in NY City March 26, 1879. The family homesteaded in Iowa and later moved to Norfolk, Neb where he spent his childhood. He became a member of the Lutheran Church at the age of 9. As a young man he worked several years with the Missouri Pacific Railroad through the Northwestern states and later became associated with the Madison Brick Co at Madison, Neb owned and operated by Mr. Karl F. Kaul where he learned the fundamentals of brick plant construction and operation.  Mr. Winkler has since supervised the construction of many new plants in most of the states and also Old Mexico and Canada.  He continued in this work until he retired. In 1934 and has spent the balance of his lifetime in Veedersburg.   In Madison, Nebraska Dec 28, 1905 he was married to Ella Kaul. To this union was born three daughters: Isabella, Evelyn and Marine. They celebrated their 54th Wedding Anniversary last December.  Mr. Winkler’s work brought him to Veedersburg in 1914 and his family joined him in 1915. Soon after moving here he became a member of the Masonic Lodge.  He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of the World in Norfolk, Neb.  Surviving along with the wife are three daughters, Mrs. Isabella Fitzpatrick of Belleville, Ill; Mrs. Chester (Evelyn) Jean, Attica and Mrs. Phillip (Marine) Blair of Veedersburg; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday March 22 at the Fishero Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Wunrow of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Danville, Ill officiating. Burial was held at the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown Ind with Masonic Graveside Services. Mr. Winkler will be missed by his many friends in the community. – kbz
