Wingate, June 21 – Mrs. Lida Wingate, well known resident of Montgomery County, died Saturday morning at 12:42 o’clock at her home here. She had been ill for 8 weeks with heart trouble. She was born Dec 20, 1857, the daughter of Aaron A. and Mary A. Gilkey, and on May 22, 1881, she was married to John C. Wingate, who preceded her in death Oct 21, 1924. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star and was superintendent of the church Cradle Roll Department for 20 years. She was also instrumental in the building of the primary room at the ME Church. Mrs. Wingate had no children of her own but had reared several, among whom is Miss Maude Auter who was with her at the time of her death. Newton Deboss, Claude Hughes, a nephew of Mr. Wingate and Arthur Hoagland Wingate were also reared b the Wingates. Lida Irwin made her home with Mrs. Wingate for the past 9 years. One brother SM Gilkey of Wingate, survives. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock from the Methodist Church in Wingate, with Rev. GP Burdon officiating.
