Lebanon—Merle Lillian Williams, 88, 250 Northfield Manor, Brownsburg, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 1989 in Hendricks County Hospital, Danville, Ind.
She was born Sept. 19, 1900 in Grant County, Ind., the daughter of Easom L. and Bertha A. Grindle Smith. She was married May 4, 1923 at Marion to Harry F. Williams who survives.
She resided in several Indiana communities including Fairmount, Portland, Attica, Lafayette, Indianapolis and Lebanon. She had resided at Brownsburg since December 1987.
She was reared and educated in Fairmount schools and was a graduate of Fairmount High School. She taught 25 years in Fairmount and Portland schools, retiring in 1966.
She was a graduate of Madame Blaker’s College, now Butler University, and also attended Purdue University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Elwood, the Indiana State Retired teachers Association and Psi Iota Xi Sorority.
Surviving besides
her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Henry (Betty Ann) Linn, Route 2, Jamestown;
three sons, John “Bob” Findlay, Ohio; Jack, Anderson, and Richard, Dana Point,
Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by two brothers, Lloyd and William Smith, and a sister, Hazel Leer.
Funeral services
were at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Myers Mortuary, Lebanon, with the Rev. Larry
Marhanka officiating. Burial was in Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
