HARRY E. - Bud - WILLIAMS

Source: Crawfordsville Review 9 April 1918

Hillsboro, Ind, April 8 - A second telegram to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Williams of this place today announced the sad news that their son, Harry, had died of injuries he received in battle on the west front of France, April 1, following the telegram of Sunday that he had been seriously injured. No definite news as to the nature of his injury has been received, except that he was injured in action in the trenches. The announcement of the death of this young man has cast a gloom over this community which has sent so many of its young men to the front in the various branches of the service and there is the greatest sympathy for the distracted parents, brothers and sisters in the loss of their son and brother. Harry Williams - Bud - as he was known by everybody of this community - enlisted in the service at Indianapolis last May in the Marine Corps. He was sent to NY and was among the first men sent to the battle front from the US. Shortly before starting across the water he made a visit home whih was the only after enlistment. The last letter to his parents was written in the trenches and he has been i n the thick of the action for several months. He was a member of the 87th Marine Corps. Bud Williams is survived by his parents, one brother and 4 sisters. He was the oldest boy. He was 21 the injury which caused his death coming on his birthday, April 1. He was born and his entire life was spent here. He was a likeable young man with many friends, and his tragic death has caused gloom over his friends and associates. He attneded the common schools here and after leaving school was associated with his father in the barber business.
