John Kenneth Willhite, 61, of 10 Park Lane, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. He was employed by Montgomery Ward Store and was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Willhite was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion, and a life member of VFW Post 1431. He was past commander of the post and past 6th district commander in 1963-64. He was a member of Cooties and was a deputy inspector. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Willhite was a graduate of Veedersburg High School. Born Aug. 22, 1915, at Veedersburg, he was a son of Edgar and Daisy Mitchell Willhite. He was first married to Erma Parker in 1934. She died in 1940. He was then married to Geraldine Schumacker in 1943. She survives. Other survivors are his stepfather, Roy Brandenburg of Mellott; two sons, Terry of Indianapolis and Loren of New Market; two daughters, Mrs. Marla Thompson of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. Sharon Williams of Ladoga; two brothers, Leon of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Neal of Waynetown; a sister, Mrs. Melba Ziegler of Hampton, Iowa; and six grandchildren. A brother is deceased. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Powers Funeral Home with the Rev. John Glosser officiating. Burial will be in Willhite Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. The VFW will conduct military graveside rites.   -- typed by Walt W

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. (CNS) – John Kenneth Wilhite, 61, of 10 Par Lane, Crawfordsville, a native of Veedersburg died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 12, 1977) at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a former sixth district commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Born Aug. 2, 1915, in Veedersburg he was the son of Edgar and Daisy Mitchell Wilhite. In 1934, he married Erina Parker, who died in 1940. In 1943, he married Geraldine Schumacher, who survives. He was employed at Montgomery Ward in Crawfordsville. He was a veteran of World War II and past commander of VFW Post 1431 and a member of the American Legion, both of Crawfordsville. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Crawfordsville was a past master of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge. Other survivors include two sons, Terry of Indianapolis and Loren of New Market; two daughters, Mrs. Maria Thompson of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. Sharon Williams of Ladoga; two brothers, Leon in Pennsylvania and Neal of Waynetown; a sister, Mrs. Melba Ziegler of Hampton, Fla.; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Powers Funeral Home in Crawfordsville, with the Rev John Glosser officiating. Burial will be in Wilhite Cemetery.
