Mellott—Laverne Wilkinson, 76, Mellott, died at 5:43 p.m. Friday, June 16, 1989 at United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville, Ill.
She was born Sept. 12, 1912 in Sterlton, Ill., the daughter of Harry and Jane Byerly Padgitt. She was married April 17, 1940 in Sterling to Clifford Wilkinson, who preceded her in death in 1959.
She had been a resident of the Mellott area for 20 years and retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Co. in 1976. She was a member of the Sterling Christian Church, Veedersburg American Legion Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers of America, J.W.G. Birthday Club, Sterling Ladies Aid and AARP.
Surviving are two brothers, Marcus Padgitt and Floyd Padgitt, both of Crawfordsville, and one sister, Nyle Gookins, Attica. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley and two brothers, Ray and Lockett.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery. – thanks to S
