Clifford Wilkinson, 52 died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Elizabeth Hospital
in Danville where he had been admitted a week before. He had suffered a heart attack Monday morning
April 6 and was taken to the hospital.
He has been custodian at the Veedersburg HS for the past six years. Born Nov 8, 1906 at Wallace, he was the son
of Albert R. and Edna Johnson Wilkinson. His family moved to Veedersburg in
1920. He was married April 17, 1940 to LaVerne Padgett who survives. He was a
WWII Veteran and had served with the National Guard several years
previously. He was a member of the
Sterling United Church of Christ and the Charles Forrest American Legion Post. Other survivors include a daughter, Shirley
Jeanne at home and four sisters: Mrs. Helen Elmore, Mrs. Frances Hughes and
Miss Louise Wilkinson all of Veedersburg and Mrs. Ruth Cates of Yeddo. He was
preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Harold. Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the
Sterling United Church of Christ with Rev. Ronald Peters and Rev. Hubert Neth
officiating. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery with the Fishero Funeral Home in

VEEDERSBURG — Clifford C. Wilkinson, 52, custodian of the Veedersburg High School since 1953, died Tuesday at 3:30 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital, at Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient one week. Mr. Wilkinson was taken to the hospital April 6 after suffering a heart attack while at work at the Veedersburg High School. Born Nov. 8, 1906, at Wallace, Mr. Wilkinson was the son of Albert R. and Edna Johnson Wilkinson. He married LaVerne Padgett April 15, 1940. Mr. Wilkinson was a member of the Sterling Christian Church and the Charles Forrest American Legion Post of Veedersburg. He served with the armed forces in World War II. Mr. Wilkinson had lived in Veedersburg since 1920. Before being appointed custodian at the high school he had worked at the Harrison Steel Mill in Attica and also as a painter and decorator. Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Shirley Jean, at home, and four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Cates, Mrs. Helen Elmore, Mrs. Frances Hughes and Miss Louise Wilkinson, all of the Veedersburg community. He was preceded in death by the parents and two brothers, George and Harold Wilkinson. The body was taken to the Fishero Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Sterling Christian Church, with burial at Rockfield Cemetery. Rev. Ronald Peters and Rev. Robert Neph will be the officiating ministers. The body will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the rites. --typed by Walt W
