Miss Zola Henrietta Waymire, 18, of 701 North Sixth Street daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Waymire, living near Brookston was killed and nine others – including her sister, Miss Wilma Louise Waymire, 20 – were injured in a 3-automobile crash on the North Ninth Street Canal Road, five miles north of the city shortly before midnight Friday night.  The girl who was killed suffered a broken neck and crushed chest when the car in which she was riding overturned and she was thrown out.  In the fatal North Ninth Street road accident, the Waymire sisters were riding in a car driven by Harry Hanns, 20 of Brookston who is employed at Oxford.  Henrietta was riding in the rumble seat with Hanns’ brother, Merle, 18 also employed at Oxford.  Wilma was in the front seat with the driver. The latter told state police that he was blinded by bright lights oof an approaching car and that he did not know whether his car was on the right or left side of the highway.  Charles Cavanaugh, 20 of 1215 South Second Street and Oren Baker, 19 of 929 North Ninth Street were the drivers of the other two cars.  Cavanaugh said the Hanns car veered over to this side of the roadway and sideswiped the Cavanaugh car the Baker car then running into the Hanns auto.  Baker’s version of the accident, however was conflicting.  He said that a southbound V-8Ford traveling at high speed passed the Cavanaugh and Baker cars and was the first to run into the Hanns car.  Police found a woman in another car who supported this version of the accident and they are looking for the driver of a fourth car which did not stop.  Riding with Cavanaugh were his brother, Mike, 18 same address and Floyd Loveless, 16 of 1203 South Second Street and with Baker were Edward Goodman, 19 of 1611 North 12th Street and Oscar McGreevy, 15 of 1519 North Nine Street.  The Cavanaugh and Baker cars were traveling toward Lafayette en route home from the free show at Battle Ground and the Hanns car was going toward Battle Ground.  Five of the victims were admitted to St. Elizabeth Hospital; :Wilma Waymire, Edward Goodman, Oscar McGreevy, Oren Baker and Merle Hanns.  Henrietta Waymire was pronounced dead at the hospital after her body had been taken there by a passerby George Cripe, 411 Meridian street West Lafayette.  All suffered cuts and bruises and Wilma Waymire suffered seriously from shock.  The latter has been doing housework for her aunt, Mrs. JL Wagner, 701 North Sixth Street while her sister who was killed has been employed as a clerk at the Woolworth five-and-ten cent store for the past several weeks.  The accident was investigated by State Police Sgt WS Huddleston and Patrolmen Gordon B. Taylor and Marshall Wagner. Born at Otterbein April 30, 1923, Henrietta Waymire was graduated from Brookston HS the past spring.  Besides her parents and injured sister she is survived by two other sisters and a brother, Joann, Jacqueline Rose and Frank all at home.  She belonged to the Otterbein UB Church.  Her body was removed to the Hippensteel Funeral Home and it was announced that it would be removed Sunday morning at 10 o’clock to her parents’ home, southeast of Brookston where services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon.
