Veedersburg -- George W. WHITING 75 who was a blacksmith and school bus driver in Montgomery County for many years, died at his home here Monday evening of a heart attack. Whiting was born at Greenville, Michigan March 10, 1887, and came to the Veedersburg area at age 16. He worked as a farm hand here many years. He operated a blacksmith shop at Mace for several years and drove a school bus at Mace and Russellville a long time. He was a member of the Mace Methodist Church and Veedersburg American legion Post. He was a veteran of WWI serving 21 months in the Army. He married Lucy Babb Feb 18, 1920; she did in 1924 and he married Audrey Babb Dec 25, 1933. Survivors include his wife; a son Wilmer; a half sister, Mrs. Cora Brooks 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Rev. Conway Rowland officiating. Burial in Osborne Prairie Cemetery.

Veedersburg -- George W. Whiting, age 75, died at his home in Veedersburg, Monday evening, Jan. 28, of a heart attack. He had been in failing health several months. Mr. Whiting was born March 5, 1887 at Greenville, Mich., the son of Benjamin and Lorena Degrau Whiting. He moved to Veedersburg at the age of 16 and was a farm hand for several years. He was a school bus driver at Mace and Russellville for 12 years and operated a blacksmith shop. Mr. Whiting was married Feb. 18, 1920 to Lucy Babb who died in 1924. He then married Audrey Babb who survives along with a son born out of the first marriage, Wilmer Whiting of Santa Clara, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Cora Brooks of Waveland; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Mace and the Veedersburg American Legion. Mr. Whiting was a veteran of World War I. The body is at the Parham Funeral Home where services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday. The Rev. Conley Rowland will officiate, with burial in Osborne Prairie Cemetery.   --typed by Walt W

George W. Whiting, 75, died at his home here Monday evening, January 28, 1963 of a heart attack, He had been in failing health for almost a year.
He was born March 5, 1887 in Greenville, Mich., the son of Benjamin and Lorena Degrau Whiting.
He moved to Fountain County at the age of 16 and was a farm hand for several years.  He was a school bus driver at Mace and Russellville for 12 years and also operated a blacksmith shop.
He was married Feb. 18, 1920 to Lucy Babb who died in 1924.  On December 25, 1933 he married Audrey Babb who survives along with a son born out of the first marriage, Wilmer Whiting of Santa Clara, Calif., a half sister, Mrs. Cora Brooks of Waveland and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Franklin, and a brother, Henry Whiting.
He was a member of the Methodist church at Mace and the American Legion Post of Veedersburg.  Mr. Whiting was a veteran of World War I.
Military funeral services were held by the Veedersburg American Legion and burial was at Osborn Prairie Cemetery.
Mr. Whiting was an honest, hard working, kind and considerate man and leaves a host of friends and acquaintances.
