WHITE, William Blumer

Source: Covington  People’s Friend Sat 16 Jan 1847 p2

Died – on Helt Prairie in Vermillion County, Ind on Sunday evening 10th inst. William Blumer White – the emphatic declaration of a gentleman on learning this demise was “then died an honest man!”  This to some may appear a common-place expression but it is reality a high encomium and a merited one.  It pronounces him the “noblest work of God.”  The deceased was a resident of Covington at an early day and for 14 years served as Clerk of Fountain County.  During that period he formed a personal acquaintance with nearly all the inhabitants of this and adjoining counties and we have no doubt, could an expression be had, there would not be a dissenting voice from his numerous acquaintances to the expression that “then died an honest man.”  Community mourns the loss of one possessed of all the qualities requisite to a good citizen while a large family weeps because bereft of a kind and affectionate husband and father. – kbz
