Mrs. Mary Emily White, age 85, wife of William Nelson White, president of the Fountain Trust Company, active in the community and civic affairs for many years died at 8:15 AM Wednesday, May 28, at her home, corner of Washington and Ninth Streets. She had been in ill health for several years. Mrs. White was born December 4, 1872 in Van Buren Township, Fountain County, the daughter of Samuel and Sarah A. Spinning Campbell. She was married February 16, 1898 to W. N. White, who survives. She attended the Covington Normal College and taught in the various schools of Fountain County for five years. She was a member of the Covington Methodist Church. Mrs. White was active in club work in Covington and in the county. She was a member and Past Regent of the Richard Henry Lee Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; a member and past president of the Covington Booklovers Club; member and past president of the Fountain County Federation of Clubs; and she was one of the sponsors of Mu Epsilon Lambda Sorority which was named in her honor. Mrs. White wrote the pageant for the Centennial celebration for Covington in 1926. She also made other contributions in the literary field. Mrs. White was a member of a pioneer family of this county. The first Fountain County Board of Commissioners met in the home of her grandfather, Isaac Spinning, north of Veedersburg in 1826. Surviving Mrs. White, in addition to her husband, are: two sons, Kipling C. White of Evanston, Illinois, Luke White of Covington; three grandchildren, Barbara Ann, Mary Patricia, and Kipling Nels, of Covington; one brother, James Campbell of Veedersburg, and one sister, Miss Hettie Campbell of Veedersburg, Route 4. The body is at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home where friends may call after noon today, May 29. She will be taken to the Covington Methodist Church at 3:30 o'clock Friday afternoon to lie in state for one hour. Services will be at 4:30 o'clock with the Rev. G. Elwood Anderson and the Rev. George Beatty officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Covington – Rites for Mary Emily White, wife of William N. White, and president of the Fountain Trust Co will be held tomorrow. She was 85. A former Fountain County school teacher she died in her home yesterday. Services will be at 4:30 p.m. in Covington Methodist Church. Mrs. White was a former regent of the Richard Henry Lee Chapter, DAR, a member of the Covington Booklovers Club and Fountain County Federation of Clubs and sponsor of the Mu Epsilon Lambda Sorority chapter. She attended the former Indiana State Normal College, Terre Haute and Covington Normal College. She taught school five years. Besides the husband, survivors include two sons, Kipling C. White, Evanston, Ill and Luke White, Covington, a brother, James Campbell, Veedersburg and a sister, Miss Hattie Campbell, Veedersburg and three grandchildren - kbz

Mrs. William Nelson White died at her resident in Covington on Wednesday May 28 at 8;15 a.m. following a short illness. Mrs. White was born Dec 4, 1872 in VanBuren Township the daughter of Samuel and Sarah A. Spinning Campbell. On Feb 16, 1898 she married William Nelson White of Covington and is survived by him. Other survivors include two sons, Kipling of Evansville and Luke of Covington; 3 grandchildren Barbara Ann, Mary Patricia and Kipling Nels White; one brother, James Campbell of Veedersburg Rural Route. She was preceded in death by one son and 10 brothers and sisters. Mrs. White attended Covington Normal and taught in various county schools for a period of five years. She was a member of the Covington Methodist Church. She was also a member and past president of the Covington Book Lovers Club and the Fountain County Federation of Clubs. She was one of the original sponsors of the Mu Epsilon Lambda sorority of Covington and the club was name in her honor. She wrote the pageant material for the Centennial Celebration of Fountain County in 1926 as well as various other literary writings. In 1826 the Fountain County Board of Commissioners met for the first meeting at the home of her grandfather Isaac Spinning who lived just north of Veedersburg. Funeral services will be held Friday May 30 at 4:30 at the Covington Methodist Church with Rev. G. Elwood Anderson and Rev. George Beatty officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The body will remain at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home where friends may call after noon Thursday and it will be taken to the church at 3:30 on Friday.
