WILLIAMSPORT — Carolyn I.
(Cates) White, 70, rural Williamsport, died in her home on Tuesday, Dec. 11,
2007. She was born Feb. 24, 1937 in rural Kingman, the daughter of Keith H. and
Irene (Meade) Cates. She married Phillip E. “Phil” White, Aug. 17, 1962 in
Indianapolis. He survives. She was a 1955 graduate of Kingman High School. She
graduated in 1959 from Indiana Central College which was later named University
of Indianapolis. She received her masters of education degree in 1965 from
Indiana University. She and her husband had lived in Indianapolis then Kingman
before moving to West Lebanon in 1967 and have resided in rural Williamsport
since 1980. She was a retired school teacher who taught from 1959-1995. She
first taught at Bluff Avenue Elementary School and Edgewood Elementary School
both of MSD Perry Township in Marion County. She then taught fifth grade,
teaching in the same classroom, at Warren Central Elementary School from
1970-1995. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in West Lebanon and
was past elder. She was very active in the church choir. She was past president
of Fountain and Warren Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the
Indiana Retired Teachers Association, serving on many state committees. She was
a member of Tri Kappa Associate Chapter in Attica, Order of the Eastern Star,
and AARP. She enjoyed reading and watching the Game Show Network. She loved
sports, especially Butler University basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals,
Indianapolis Colts and Seeger sports. Survivors, besides the husband, include:
two sons, Robert "Bob" (Dana) White, Lafayette and William “Bill”
(Tammy) White, Houston, Texas, a brother, Dale (Anna) Cates, rural Kingman;
four grandchildren, Keith White and Austin White, both of Lafayette and Phillip
White and James White, both of Houston, Texas; and a cousin, Virginia (Bob)
Logue, O'Fallon, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister,
Norma Cates. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Presbyterian
Church, West Lebanon, with the Rev. Roger McDaniel officiating. Burial was in
Highland Cemetery, Williamsport. Grady Funeral Home, Williamsport, was in
