KINGMAN — Hazel “Irene” Samuels Whittington, 87, rural Kingman, died at 1:35 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2001 at her residence. She was born Aug. 7, 1913 in Silver Island, the daughter of Joseph and Susan (Jones) Samuels. She married Fuson Christie Whittington May 18, 1933 in Quaker Parsonage, Quaker. He preceded in death June 21, 1973. She was a 1931 graduate of Cayuga High School. She enjoyed flowers, birds and her cats. Her passion was her children and grandchildren. Survivors include: seven sons, Gerald (Roberta) Whittington, Tom Whittington, Joe (Janet) Whittington, Frank (Marilyn) Whittington, Max (Lora) Whittington, Rex Whittington, all of Kingman and John (Vicki) Whittington, Crawfordsville; two daughters, Anne (Gary) Pittman, Waveland and Jan (William) Ludlow, Bloomington; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Verner (Almeta) Samuels, Danville, Ill. and Edward Samuels, Covington; a sister, Helen Sprouls, Winona Lake, formerly of Crawfordsville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two grandsons, Jack and Robert Whittington. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday in DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home, Cayuga, with the Rev. Wendell Adams officiating. Burial was in Thomas Cemetery, Newport.
