WHEATLEY, Lydia Mayer

Mrs. Lydia Mayer Wheatley, aged 80, a native of Covington, died at the Wabash Valley Sanitarium near Lafayette on June 24. She had since the death of her husband, made her home in Covington with Mr. and Mrs. William Mahoney and Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Livengood, and was taken to the sanitarium for treatment about a month before her death. She was a daughter of Michael and Margaret Mayer, prominent Covington residents. She received her education in music at St. Mary’s-of-the-Woods, Terre Haute, and taught music several years in the Covington community. In 1904 she was married to Lucien Wheatley of Charleston, Ill., and they resided in Charleston, Chicago and Miami, Fla., until the death of Mr. Wheatley in 1940. One sister, Mrs. Lena Schoonover and one brother, Michael Mayer, both of Covington, survive. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, June 26 at the Crumley Funeral Home in Covington and interment was made in Mt. Hope Cemetery. - S
