Constance May Babb Wellheuser was born in Fountain County near Stone Bluff, Indiana on December 30, 1883. She was the daughter of Adelaide Grubb and John Reilley Babb who preceded her in death. She grew up in the Stone Bluff community and attended school at Stone Bluff. On August 31, 1913, she was united in marriage with Matthew Joseph Wellheuser of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Detroit, Michigan by the Rt. Rev. William Frederick Faber. To this union were born five children: Robert Lee, Elinor Adelaide and Patricia Elizabeth (twins) and John Matthew; and Carolyn Margaret, deceased. Her husband preceded her in death Jan 19, 1932. Surviving with the children are two brothers, Roy and Winfield and two sisters, Audrey Whiting and Esther Byer. Also two granddaughters, Roselyn Deanna Wellheuser and Beverly Adelaide Abolt. She was member of the Stone Bluff Ladies Aid. She was employed as night telephone operator by the Wabash Prairie Telephone Company. Mrs. Wellheuser departed this life Dec 5, 1953. – kbz

Mrs. Constance M. Wellheuser, 70, died Saturday morning at the home of her brother, Roy Babb where she had been making her home several years. Mrs. Wellheuser had been employed as night operator at Wabash Prairie Telephone Co until her recent retirement because of ill health. She was born in Fountain County Dec 30, 1883, daughter of John R. and Adelaide Grubb Babb. She was a member of the EUB Church at Stone Bluff and Veedersburg Business and Professional Women’s Club. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Abolt of Covington Rural Route and Patricia of Veedersburg; two sons, Robert L. Wellheuser of Attica and John Welheuser (sic) of Lake Charles, La; two brothers, Winfield Babb of Rockford and Roy Babb; two sisters, Mrs. Audrey Whiting of Mace, Ind and Mrs. Esther Byer of Kalamazoo Mich and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew J. Wellheuser to whom she was married Aug 31, 1913. Funeral services were Tuesday at Osborn Prairie Church with Fishero Funeral Home in charge. – kbz
