Anderson – Ercele L. (St. George) Welker, 85 of Anderson and formerly of Cicero, died Thursday, July 13, 2000 at her daughter’s home. Mrs. Welker was a teacher for Indiana schools for 31 years. She retired in 1973 after teaching at School No. 92 for 14 years. She was born July 29, 1914 in Covington, Ind, the daughter of Oscar and Virgie (Moore) Abernathy. She attended Ball State University, Butler University and San Francisco State College. She also attended Indiana Central College for two years, where she received her teaching certificate. She married Harry E. Welker in 1985. He survives. She attended the Church of God at West Anderson. She was a former member of the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa Kappa sororities, the Indiana State Teachers’ Association, National Education Association, Indianapolis Education Association, Indiana Classroom Teachers and the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, La Frenda and Robert Fitzgerald of Howell, Mich and Brenda Welker of Anderson; a son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Nanette Ebbertt of Kansas City, Mo; a brother and sister-in-law, Quentin and Belinda Abernathy of Covington, Ind; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and a son-in-law, Doug Welker. Calling will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington. The Rev. Gary Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
