Green Hill—Robert L. Weigle, 66, Green Hill, Route 9, Lafayette, died at 11:02 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 1989 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne. He was injured in a traffic accident at Fort Wayne earlier Wednesday evening.
He was born March 4, 1923 in Lafayette, and was raised in the Green Hill area where he spent most of his life. He was married Aug. 21, 1948 in Lafayette, to Jean Payne, who survives.
He graduated from Otterbein High School in 1941 and studied agriculture at Purdue University where he graduated in 1948.
He farmed and for the past 15 years had worked at Quality Farm and Fleet in Lafayette. He also had worked for the Purdue Forestry Center for several years and the former Caulfield Oil Co.
He was a member of Medina Township advisory board in Warren County and had served as township trustee of Medina Township from 1952 until 1962.
He was a member of Armstrong Chapel United Methodist Church and was on the board of trustees and the administrative board at the church. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of Martin Kennedy American Legion Post 125 of Otterbein. He was a member of Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Terry, West Lafayette; Mark, Bloomington, and Kent, Stockwell; a sister, Ruth Weigle, Indianapolis, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Barry.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in Steely Funeral Home Chapel, Otterbein, with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial was in Asbury Cemetery. – thanks to S
