COVINGTON - The funeral service of Willard J. Weidig of Chicago, Ill., a former Covington resident, was attended Friday, Sept. 19, by Mrs. James B. Wallace, Mrs. L. Guy Faust and Mrs. Charles F. Frey of Covington, local relatives.
Mr. Weidig, who was 57 years old, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weidig. He was a graduate of Covington High School and Purdue University.
His death occurred Monday, Sept. 15, and was attributed to a brutal beating by two unidentified assailants who broke into his apartment. The motive apparently was robbery as his billfold was missing and the apartment was ransacked. The assult was not discovered until Sept. 19 when neighbors became suspicious when they saw no activity around the apartment. It is thought that he had laid there for three or four days before being discovered.
Mr. Weidig is survived by two brothers, Melvin a Libertyville, Ill., and Edmond of Danville, Ill.; one niece; one nephew; and several cousins.
