Charles M. Watts died at his home on McDonald Street this city Saturday afternoon at 4:20 o’clock, following an illness of 8 months of rheumatism and kidney trouble. Mr. Watts spent five weeks in a Lafayette hospital and two weeks at a sanitarium in Martinsville, <Ind but he failed to find the relief which he sought. Mr. Watts was a son of Frank and Jennie Watts who reside at Fountain. He was born at Fountain 40 years ago and spent his entire life there with the exception of the past two years during which he and his family lived in Attica. He taught school for a few years, after which he operated the general store in Fountain and also managed the Portland Arch pleasure resort for a number of years. He served as trustee of Shawnee Twp for four years and made a splendid record for efficiency and economy. Mr. Watts was a member of the Maccabee and Modern Woodman Lodges of Covington and also a member of the Moose Lodge at Danville, Ill. He was married to Miss Sophia Shafer at Fountain in 1905. To this union four children were born three of whom, Loren, Cecil and Clelia are living. One died in infancy. He also leaves the wife of this city, the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Watts of Fountain and two brothers, William Watts of Garrett, Ind and Frank Watts Jr. of Fountain. The funeral was conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Christian Church in Fountain, Rev. Howard of Sterling officiating. Interment was made in the Fountain Cemetery.
